Inside Our Quality Lab — How We Test Every Batch of Custom Paper Bags & Boxes

Introduction

You’ve seen our custom kraft paper bags, white cardboard gift bags, window bread bags, and cake boxes. But what you haven’t seen is the rigorous testing that happens behind the scenes — before any product leaves our factory.

Quality isn’t just a promise. It’s measured, verified, and documented in our in-house testing laboratory. We invest in professional testing equipment to ensure every bag, every box, and every roll of paper meets your specifications for strength, durability, safety, and appearance.

Below are the key instruments we use to protect your brand reputation.

Quality is not just a mere phrase. We have a professional in-house testing laboratory that conducts rigorous tests on every batch of raw materials and finished products. Here are the key equipment that ensures that every paper bag and every paper box you receive is durable and long-lasting.

1. Tear Resistance Tester — Ensuring Your Bag Won’t Rip

What it does: Measures the force required to propagate a tear in paper or paperboard. This is critical for shopping bags, bread bags, and cake boxes that carry weight.

Why it matters to you: A bag that tears at the handle or along the side is a disaster for your customer. Our tear resistance test guarantees that your custom bags can handle the intended load — whether it’s a heavy bottle of wine or a dozen croissants.

Test purpose: To measure the ability of paper or cardboard to resist tearing. For heavy-duty shopping bags, bread bags and cake boxes, this indicator directly determines the reliability of the product.

2. Fluorescent Tester — Detecting Harmful Optical Brighteners

What it does: Identifies fluorescent whitening agents in paper that may migrate to food (for food-contact papers) or cause skin irritation.

Why it matters to you: For food-grade packaging (bread bags, cake boxes) and products that touch skin (gift bags handled by many people), we ensure no harmful fluorescent substances are present. Our test complies with FDA and EU food contact standards.

Test purpose: To detect whether fluorescent whitening agents are present in the paper. Food-contact packaging must prevent harmful fluorescent substances from migrating into the food.

3. AFS (Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometer) — Heavy Metal Safety

What it does: Detects trace levels of heavy metals (lead, mercury, cadmium, etc.) in paper, inks, and coatings.

Why it matters to you: Many of our bags are used for food (bakery, takeaway) or handled by children (gift bags). We ensure your packaging is free from toxic heavy metals, fully compliant with ROHS, REACH, and California Prop 65.

Test purpose: The atomic fluorescence spectrometer is used to detect the content of heavy metals (such as lead, mercury, cadmium, etc.) in paper, ink, and coatings. It ensures the safety of food contact and the safety for children's use.

4. GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry) — Volatile Organic Compounds & Residual Solvents

What it does: Identifies and quantifies volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and residual solvents from printing inks or adhesives.

Why it matters to you: For food packaging and closed boxes (like cake boxes), any residual solvent odor can transfer to the product. GC-MS ensures your packaging is odorless and safe, meeting the strictest food contact regulations.

Test purpose: The gas chromatography-mass spectrometry instrument is used to detect volatile organic compounds and residual solvents in printing inks or adhesives, ensuring that the packaging has no odor and no risk of chemical migration.

5. Folding Endurance Tester — Simulating Repeated Use

What it does: Repeatedly folds a paper sample at the same point until it breaks. This simulates the opening and closing of a bag, the folding of a box flap, or the creasing of a gift box.

Why it matters to you: A cake box that cracks at the fold line during assembly is useless. Our folding endurance test guarantees that your packaging can be folded, unfolded, and refolded without failure.

Test purpose: The tear resistance tester simulates the endurance of paper after repeated folding. Ensure that the creases in the paper box do not crack and the flap of the paper bag does not break.

6. Chroma Meter — Color Consistency Across Batches

What it does: Measures the color of paper, printed logos, and spot colors (e.g., Pantone). It provides L*a*b* values to ensure color matching between batches.

Why it matters to you: Your brand’s logo color must be identical on every bag — whether you order 1,000 today or 50,000 next year. Our chroma meter guarantees batch-to-batch color consistency.

Test purpose: The colorimeter measures the whiteness of paper and the color difference of printing. Ensure that the color of the custom bag logo is consistent across different batches, in line with your brand's standard color.

7. Vibration Impact Tester — Simulating Transport Damage

What it does: Subjects filled packages to controlled vibration and mechanical shocks, mimicking truck, ship, or air freight conditions.

Why it matters to you: Your bags and boxes travel thousands of miles. We test how they hold up against real-world vibration and impact — so your products arrive in perfect condition.

Test purpose: The vibration impact test bench simulates the bumps and collisions during transportation. It ensures that the packaging remains intact after long-distance sea transportation, land transportation, and air transportation.

8. High-Low Temperature Tester — Extreme Climate Performance

What it does: Exposes packaging to extreme temperatures (from -30°C to +60°C) and humidity cycles, simulating warehouse, container, or outdoor delivery conditions.

Why it matters to you: Your bags might go from a freezing truck to a hot bakery. Our high-low temperature chamber ensures that glues don’t fail, laminations don’t bubble, and paper doesn’t warp under temperature stress.

Test purpose: The high and low temperature alternating test chamber simulates extreme temperature and humidity conditions. It ensures that the glue does not run out, the film does not bubble, and the paper does not deform.

9. Burst Strength Tester — Puncture & Pressure Resistance

What it does: Applies increasing hydraulic pressure to a paper sample until it bursts. This measures the overall strength of the paper or paperboard.

Why it matters to you: For cake boxes carrying heavy tiers or bread bags stuffed with crusty loaves, burst strength ensures the bottom won’t blow out. It’s one of the most fundamental quality metrics for packaging paper.

Test purpose: The tear resistance tester measures the paper's ability to resist tearing under vertical pressure. It is one of the most fundamental strength indicators for packaging paper, directly determining whether the bottom of the box or bag will 'burst open'.

From Testing to Trust — Our Commitment to You

Every roll of paper, every batch of printed bags, and every finished cake box that leaves our factory has passed through these instruments — and our team of trained quality technicians.

We don’t just look at your packaging. We test it.

That’s how we guarantee:

  • No unexpected tearing
  • No color mismatch
  • No solvent odor
  • No heavy metal risk
  • No transport damage
  • No climate failure

From the time the raw materials are warehoused to the time the finished products are dispatched, every batch of products undergoes strict testing by the aforementioned equipment. Our commitment is: Every paper bag and every paper box you receive can stand the test.

Want to See a Test Report for Your Order?

We provide quality test reports for every production batch upon request. You can see the exact tear strength, burst strength, color values, and solvent residue levels of your custom packaging.
